Japanese Drama - Galileo

LadyJan: For those who have not had a chance to watch this popular Japanese drama starring Fukuyama Masaharu and Kou Shibasaki when it was shown in Japan in 2007, do catch this drama on Channel U which will be showing the drama on 13 May 2011, 11.30pm every Fridays. (Updated 3 May 2011)

I have been hooked on this new Japanese drama which is based on a popular mystery novel by Higashino Keigo. This drama has been airing at Fuji TV every Monday since 15 October 2007. I have been watching this drama online at
(http://www.veoh.com/series/galileojdorama) since last week and only managed to watch 3 episodes so far. I would definitely buy the vcd set to add to my collections once it is out in the stores but it should take a few months. Each episode is so interesting that i can't wait for the vcd set to be out to watch it :>

Galileo 3

Galileo is a 10 episodes Japanese television drama based on Detective Galileo, a novel by the famous mystery writer Keigo Higashino. It narrates the events and cases encountered by Kaoru Utsumi, a rookie detective, and Manabu Yukawa, a university associate professor, while the two pair up to solve many mysterious cases.

Kaoru Utsumi, a rookie detective who has just been reassigned to the criminal division, finds her investigation of her first murder case stalled by the seemingly
supernatural phenomenons surrounding the event. She seeks help from Shunpei Kusanagi, a senior detective at the police headquarter, who introduces her to his college buddy and an associate professor at Teito University, Manabu Yukawa. Yukawa is a tall, handsome, brilliant but eccentric scientist who is interested in nothing but physics, while Utsumi is a hot-blooded detective with a strong sense of justice. Together, the odd pair solves many difficult and seemingly impossible crimes with their individual talents.

I'm still waiting for episode 4 (with English subtitles) to be posted online. I read online that Galileo's reviews have been so good in Japan that its producers announced recently that they would film a movie version early next year, starring the same cast and it would be due out in 2008.

One of the main reason i'm attracted to the drama is because of the 2 lead characters in the show. One of my favourite actors, Fukuyama Masaharu plays the physics genius Yukawa Manabu, while Shibasaki Kou, another of my favourite actress, plays rookie detective Utsumi Kaoru in the show and also sings the opening themesong "Kiss Shite.

A genius at analysing criminal behaviour, Yukawa works with Shibasaki to solve mysterious cases. Affectionately known as Tantei Galileo, Yukawa is brilliant, an all-round sportsman, tall and handsome but eccentric. Each week features a guest villain, with Karasawa Toshiaki (44) taking on the villian role in the first episode. SMAP member Katori Shingo (30) will make a guest appearance in the fourth episode. In a radical change from his recent TV and movie role as the Monkey god Songoku in “Saiyuki”, he will play a cunning serial killer.

Fukuyama looks so cute and dashing in the show and it has been four and a half years since he shelved his acting career to focus on singing. I always enjoy watching his dramas and the boyish-looking star was last seen in the 2003 drama Beauty Or Beast, which co-starred Nanako Matsushima. This drama is a must watch for Japanese drama fans!
