"Daemul" started showing in Korea on 6 October 2010 after "My Girlfriend Is A Gumiho" ended on SBS. "Daemul" which is based on a popular comic series has been in the works for several years now, which includes a long pre-production period and its delays as it was plagued with production and other issues. Originally scheduled to air in 2008 but was put on hold after budget constraints and filming locations. Leading actress Go Hyun-jung, who  was cast two years ago playing the nation’s first female president, clashed with the production company and was ready to leave the project as she was frustrated with all the delays and production issues. With both sides not budging, broadcaster SBS had to step in to meet with Go Hyun-jung in a hours-long negotiation, and managed to coax her back.

Among the numerous actresses in Korea, it would be rather difficult to pinpoint someone fit for a president, but it seems SBS managed to find the perfect match. Go Hyun-jung from " Queen Seon Duk" will act as Seo Hye-rim, who is the first female president of Korea.  I was very impressed with her performance as Mi-shil in "Queen Seon Duk" and looks forward to her acting in another strong character . It will be a challenging role for her as both characters are quite similar: outspoken, independent and stubborn and it will be interesting to see how Go Hyun-jung manages the challenge.

"Daemul" which contains incidents which can be recognized by anyone who has watched even a little bit of news, is a fantasy and as well as satire of Korea's political scene. The 24-episode series will be about an ordinary woman who becomes president: how and why she became head of state and also the complicated schemes and plots surrounding her, her presidency, allies and enemies. It is based on the second of the series of artist Park In-kwon's comic. The main story of the drama is no different from the original story in that it can be summarized as 'The project to create Korea's first female president,' but it differentiates itself in the characteristics of the main characters and its structure. Seo Hae-rim's job has changed from being a female human rights lawyer to an anchorwoman-turned- environmental activist. The role of a back-stabbing womanizer-turned prosecutor that Kwon Sang-woo has taken on has changed as well -- he is a combination of the Ha Do-ya and Ha Ryu brothers from the comic. How the absence of Ha Ryu who was a key character in the comic, will be substituted will be crucial to the series.

Ha Do-ya will be in a one-sided love with Seo Hye-rim, the former broadcast announcer who is elected to the presidency. Cha In-pyo will be acting as a politician in the drama. Anchorwoman Seo Hae-rim, who gets fired while protesting about her husband's undeserved death, enters politics by proposal of Kang Tae-san (played by Cha In-pyo) who is a member of the ruling party and a strong candidate for the next presidential elections. With the help of Ha Do-ya (he had known since her childhood days), Seo Hae-rim eyes the position of president as well and Kang Tae-san, who has no thoughts of yielding to Seo, become rivals and clash against each other. Lee Soo-kyeong will appear as the femme fatale curator Jang Se-jin.
