Day 8 In Tokyo - Odaiba (Shiodome, Fuji TV & Venus Fort)

Hubby and i initially planned to visit the Imperial Palace garden located near Shiodome station on day 8 of our Tokyo trip and i was looking forward to taking more pictures with my brother's DSLR camera but we had to abandon the trip when we reached the station as it started raining and was very windy and cold. We were attracted to this big clock outside of the station and ended up taking lot of pictures.

We ended up going back to Daiba station and visiting Fuji Television which was just next to our hotel. Tickets for a studio tour are available from the booth at the top of the escalator. However we could not purchase the ticket to visit the studios as it was closed that day and we could only go up to the 1st and 7th floor of the building which has a shop selling character goods. I bought a folder of a Japanese drama i have been watching "Zeittai Reido" starring Aya Ueto and saw posters of some of my favorite dramas like "Nodame Cantibile". The piano tote bag that Nodame was carrying during the drama was also on sale at the shop and i was thinking of buying it as i love the drama but the price of more than S$100 was just too expensive and not worth it :<

We had lunch buffet at our hotel before going to Venus Fort to shop around and take pictures at its new Hello Kitty's Kawaii Paradise which is a mini themepark. We bought Carbonara burger from Mcdonald's back to the hotel for dinner as we wanted to go back to the hotel early as we have not packed our luggage yet and have to wake up at 3am the next morning to catch our early flight back home. We have to check out of our hotel room at 4am so that we will be able to take the Limousine bus to Haneda Airport at 5.05am.

Giant "Anime" Nittere Ohdokei Clock in Shiodome

The clock known as Nittere-Ohdokei (NTV Grand Clock) is designed by the world famous Ghibli animator and film director Miyazaki Hayao and resembles a bit the castle in Hayao's film "Howl's Moving Castle". The huge mechanical clock (sculpted by Shachimaru Kunio), which took 5 years to design and build, is considered to be one of the biggest clocks in the world. It's not just an ordinary mechanical timepiece, it weighs 28 tons, and it can perform 32 mechanical tricks. In order to create it the developers used 1,228 copper plates.

The headquarters of Fuji TV is one of the most striking buildings in all of Japan. This futuristic metallic building features a huge silver ball which is 32 metres in diameter and weighs an estimated one thousand and two hundred tons. The ball was actually built and lifted into position 123 metres off the ground where it is observation deck with views across Tokyo Bay and the Odaiba area. Inside Fuji Television building is a shop that sells character goods. In the studio promenade you can see TV program sets, clothes worn by performers, and also programs being recorded. You can get an unobstructed panoramic view of the coastal region from the spherical observation deck, which is a major attraction of Odaiba.
